Thiessen Law Firm, a Houston-based personal injury law firm, is accepting applications for its $2,500 A Second Chance Scholarship. The scholarship invites college and graduate students who have experienced a car accident to share how the experience changed their perspective, influenced their personal growth, and shaped their future goals. Applications are open through March 31, 2027.
Through its work representing people injured in car accidents, Thiessen Law Firm has seen how unexpected events can disrupt education, careers, and everyday life. The scholarship recognizes students who have faced these challenges and found new direction in their experiences.
“A car accident can change someone’s plans overnight, but it doesn’t have to define their future. We want to hear from students who have taken a difficult experience and used it to shape what comes next.”
Applicants must submit an original three- to five-minute video responding to the topic, “A Second Chance: How a Car Accident Changed My Life and Shaped My Future.” Videos should address the challenges students faced following an accident, the lessons they learned, and how the experience influenced their educational or career aspirations.
The scholarship is open to students enrolled in or accepted to an accredited U.S. college, university, or graduate school, regardless of their field of study. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be U.S. citizens or otherwise authorized to work or attend school in the United States.
Students must submit their video link, unofficial academic transcript, and any required proof of acceptance through the online scholarship application form. There is no application fee.

Eligible submissions will be reviewed for originality, thoughtful reflection, clarity, and responsiveness to the scholarship prompt. The final recipient will be selected by Mark Thiessen, founding partner and trial attorney at Thiessen Law Firm.
The $2,500 award will be paid directly to the recipient’s educational institution.
